Workshops
Annie will meet your staff where they are and build capacity. Workshops, either in-person or remote, can be as short as a 90-minute introduction, include follow-up sessions or a full-day deep dive.
Workshops are tailored to the learners in your building. The focus can be as narrow as SIFE with Developing literacy, target SIFE as a subset of ELs/MLLs, or focus on newcomers or ELs/MLLs more broadly.
All sessions take an assets-based approach and are interactive. We focus on building an understanding of how lived experiences ~ culture, language, educational background, socio-economic and geographic contexts ~ shape knowledge, skills, and dispositions that students bring to the classroom.
Identifying and serving MLLs and SIFE
This workshop-based session introduces participants to the spectrum of Multilingual Learners. Through the session, school-level administrators are supported to plan for the identification and programming of MLLs & SIFE in their context as a means to target literacy growth and accelerate meaningful participation at the secondary level.
Understanding the Learner
Educators will gain an understanding of the spectrum of Multilingual learners and will be able to use that understanding to enhance instruction and create pathways to participation that target the strengths and varied needs of learners in the classroom.
The session can focus on a broad understanding of ELs/MLLs, focus, in a more targeted way, on the needs of SIFE or take a more pointed look at SIFE with Developing Literacy who may be relatively new to print.
